Now that the Captain is gone for the year and the ghost of playoffs past stayed in the old stadium, lets blow up the line up and start over.
Joe Girardi said the team needs to make adjustments, so I am hear to advocate said adjustments. The season is not over and it can all change with a win on Tuesday. A-Rod is having a bad series and he might not be 100% healthy. That said all they need is one win to turn it around.
Since no one is hitting, lets change the line up 1-9. Career vs Verlander

New Season

The season comes down to 27 games left in the schedule, with the Orioles and the Yankees in a dead tie for first only one team can take the division. That said the team currently in second place has a great chance at beating both of them out for first.
Tampa has 6 games left with the Orioles, 4 games with the Yankees including tonight, 3 games vs the Rangers, 2 vs Boston and 4 vs the White Sox.
Orioles have 6 games left with the Rays, 4 games vs the Yankees, a 6 game west coast trip and 6 games vs the Red Sox.
No one knows what Yankee team will show up, but the Bombers with a record 27 world series titles have 27 games left in the season to attempt to that magic number 28.
We all know it will come down to pitching and situational hitting. No other team in baseball has the pressure the team from the bronx does. Last time the Yankees blew a lead this big and backed into the playoffs they won it all.
Lets hope that is repeated this year.

Mr. 4000?

As a self appointed Jeter apologist, I have always given him the benefit of the doubt. No one expected the Yankee Captain to continue hitting and even live up to the his latest contract. With two years left, on said contract we expected him to retire as a Yankee in 2014.
Despite that he has continued playing at a Jeter level and even though I disagree with the "EXPERTS" of the 4 letter network that are saying its not typical for a player to play well into his 40's and continue to produce. I say take a look at history, Pete Rose who played 24 years (4256), Ty Cobb who played 24 (4189), Hank Aaron who played 23 (3771), Stan Musial who played 22 (3630), Honus Wagner who played 21years (3420) and Carl Yastrzemski who played 23 years (3419), they all produced even pass the age of 40.
He currently has 3251 hits playing his 18th season and is on pace to finish in 11th place by the end of the year. Passing the GREAT Willie Mays. Lets remember Paul Molitor was 39 when he hit .341 and had a total of 225 hits
Lets say for argument sake, he gets 49 hits for the remainder of the year and put him at 3300 and if he plays another 4 years and he averages 150 hits a year, that would put him at 3900 hits.
I would never say its impossible for him to get to 4000 let alone 3900 but if we have learned one thing about Derek Sanderson Jeter is, we could never count him out.
In my humble opinion he will end up in 3rd place between Ty Cobb's 4189 and Hank Aaron 3771.
It will be fun seeing where he ends up and how high he will be on the list.

Should the Yankees Mortgage the Future to win Now?
With Cole Hamels playing out his final year, awaiting his free agency and Phils out of contention, experts across baseball expect him to be traded to the Boston RedSox or Texas Rangers or to the California Anaheim Orange County not Los Angeles Angels, according to the prospects needed by the Phils (positions in need).
Based on the fact that the New York Yankees officially announced that CF Mason Williams, RF Tyler Austin and C Gary Sanchez have been promoted from Charleston to Tampa. Makes me wonder the timing is a little suspect. They promoted 3 Major prospects in the middle of the year (not uncommon) but doing it in a week that people are accusing them of not having what Philadelphia needs.
Every one always speaks of the Killers B's as the best Yankee prospects and any trade to Philadelphia would need to be loaded with great talent based on the fact that you are getting in return one of the best 10 pitchers in baseball, or top 5 depending on which side of the country you live in.
The media would have you believe that any trade would need to include Phil Hughes and the killer B's along with Eduardo Nunez, but I disagree.
The Yankees farm system is very talented specially the 3 men that were promoted this week and I would hate to trade all your pitching talent, specially if you are trading Phil Hughes.

As a Yankee fan I say trade every prospect we have for Cole Hamels, but as Baseball fan I say lets not trade away the farm system for what might be a rental. Hamels a west coast guy is reportedly interested in playing in California and for the National League.
This will be an interesting year, with everyone aging at the same time and your to best outfielders up for free agency the Yankees should consider keeping the prospects and worry about the future.

What Back Page? Where is the love

If the Yankees win a game in the forest and no one sees it, did they really win the game?
The Boss Mr. Steinbrenner loved the back page, and would set the office on fire, or fire a manager just to get on the back page. Naturally with the Yankees winning 9 games in a row and 3 consecutive series they would be the lead on the four letter network, but thanks to OKC vs the Heat they were knocked off. OK then so they would be the second story on SC, but thanks to US Open and Simpson that was not the case.. (Doh). Well then they are the 3rd story of the night, not really.. A man that had not won a race in 143 races on Fathers day would make that impossible.
That would lead us to tonight, they would 100% be the lead story since they have won 10 games in a row and not the the case. R.A Dickey who became the first pitcher in the modern era to throw back to back 1 hitters.
Now this is not a big deal, the world series is won in October and the Yankees are far from it, but when you have the pitching staff on fire it merits a mention.

One MO Year

Everyone that knows me can tell you that my favorite Yankee is Derek Jeter, but the also know that Mariano Rivera is one of my favorite players of all time. Yesterday he told the world, that he is coming back, and other than a horrible interview by Gomez on the four letter network (stupid question after stupid question).... No real Yankee fan would have guessed that he was coming back. We know he will give is one MO year.... His legendary career, should never come into question "why would he return"? That is the worst and most un intelligent question of all time but in all fairness Pedro Gomez is not Peter Gammons. MO is a 5 time world champ, the greatest closer of all time and might be one of the biggest reasons why Torre is going to the HALL OF FAME. That said if he wants to return and go out on his own, then Baseball writers media pundits and even idiots like Pedro Gomez should, say thank you and shut the hell up...
